You know you’d be great at the job. Recruiters just can’t see it yet.
I sent 500+ applications and spent years learning why they didn’t work. Happy Hustle is what I wish I’d had.

Where it started.
In my family of teachers, the motto was always “learning should be fun” and “work should be fun.”
It’s something that stuck with me. We work about 90,000 hours over the course of our lives, and I think those hours should be fun.
But so many of us are stuck, or we’ve outgrown our jobs. We’re not happy, but we stay, because we don’t know how to change paths without starting over from scratch.
Seven years ago, I was afraid I’d have to start over.
- ArchitectureThe job I started in
- Nonprofits & PolicyThe work I loved
- Product ManagementThe move that took years
- Happy HustleWhat I needed back then
One recruiter wrote back,
“Such a beautiful resume.”
But that was it. I didn’t even get a screening interview.
I loved my work in nonprofits and policy, but I wanted to tackle those problems from a different angle.
So I applied to product roles with a résumé full of nonprofit work. I knew I could do the job, but on paper I had no background. I tried everything. Nothing worked.
I needed this. I kept meeting people who did too. So we built it.
No one to askI didn’t know anyone in those roles, and no elder sibling had it figured out.
A person to ask
Everyone on the team switched into product or strategy from somewhere else. This is built on what we’d do in your spot.
No playbookPlenty of advice online, none of it for someone like me, or for my 11pm questions.
A 60-day plan
A plan written for the product or strategy role you’re going after.
No one who personalized to my caseEvery piece of advice started from zero, with no context on where I’d been or what I was good at.
Built to translate your story
Joy reads your current experience and target role first. Then she builds the plan from what worked for 1,500+ people who made the same kind of move.
No structureThree weeks or three years from landing? I had no idea if anything was getting me closer.
One thing tonight
One concrete task each night, so progress doesn’t wait for a free weekend.
